Amman, March 19(Petra)-HRH Prince El Hassan bin Talal on Friday will celebrate his 62nd birthday.

Prince El Hassan continues championing humanitarian rights within his highness perspective of the global commons: the environmental, genetic, social, intellectual and cultural resources "that we all depend upon for existence".

Much of HRH Prince Hassan’s efforts are towards a better future for young people through furthering a universal vision to help overcome global crises.

In May, HRH Prince Hassan was awarded Japan’s 25th Niwano Peace Prize "for his tireless efforts toward building peace with justice in the Middle East" and his "significant role in combating prejudice and hatred worldwide.

He has been a bridge builder across existing political and religious divides.

fighting all forms of religious extremism and terrorism".

Addressing the UN General Assembly, in New York later that same month, HRH spoke of a global vision for human security, stressing that imbalances between nations – in population growth, poverty, food, resources, ecology, migration, energy, money, peace and cultural understanding – are pivotal security issues that touch all lives.

He called for an immediate global action program as a step toward geo-political realignment and adjustment, leading to a greater degree of global unity.

In October, Prince Hassan received the "Peace Prize of the City of Augsburg – 2008" in recognition of "his contribution to Islamic-Christian dialogue, his untiring efforts for peace between nations and religions, his fight against terror of every origin and his dedication to understanding between the three monotheistic religions".

In November, HRH delivered the inaugural King Hussein Memorial Lecture at Durham University on the theme of Cultural Dialogue, addressing topics relevant to the human condition in the ultimate challenge of re-establishing global political and economic stability.

Prince Hassan noted that fundamental principles of humanitarian impartiality and neutrality were critical for addressing crises across the world and spoke of the impact of the ongoing global financial crisis on development, employment and stability in the Middle East region, among others, with the resulting rise in youth unemployment posing security risks and harming regional economic development placing an emphasis upon local productive capacities to ensure greater internal economic stability.

Earlier this month HRH Prince Hassan had called for religion to surpass political authority in the Holy City of Jerusalem at the Arab Thought Forum’s annual seminar, proposing a moral precedence for all holy sites in Jerusalem, towards "the future of the city where all the houses of worship, mosques, churches and synagogues would be open to all nations".

Throughout the past few months of the bloodshed in Gaza and its ramifications to any future dream of Middle East Peace, HRH spoke out against the severe humanitarian crisis, pleading for a day when all people of the region could live without violence.

HRH Prince El Hassan bin Talal remains constant to a human ethic in global policy.

HRH and Princess Sarvath celebrated 40 years of marriage in the late summer.
