Amman, Sept.14 (Petra)-- A slight drop in mercury levels is expected Thursday, but the Kingdom remains under the impact of the heat wave that started earlier this week.

According to the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD), temperatures will rise 4-5 degrees above their annual average, bringing relatively hot conditions in the hilly areas, while it will be hot in other regions.

Daytime temperatures will reach 37 degrees in Amman, 34 in the northern and southern regions, while jumping to 41 degrees in Aqaba. Mercury levels will cool down at night dropping to 21 in the capital, while sliding to 27 degrees in the Gulf of Aqaba, the JMD said.

The heatwave is forecast to taper off as of Friday, with temperatures dropping to their annual average, creating normal summer conditions in the hilly areas, and relatively hot weather in other parts of the country, the JMD added.

Similar weather conditions will continue to prevail on Saturday with low clouds in the northern and central regions, while winds will be northwesterly moderate, the JMD noted.
