Over 1000 children injured in Gaza protests

Ramallah May 17 (Petra) - Over 1,000 Palestinian children were wounded by Israeli occupation forces in Gaza Strip during demonstrations that began on March 30 and are still ongoing, according to UN Children's Fund (UNICEF).

The UN body in Palestine noted in a statement on Thursday, that UNICEF and its partners delivered two truck-loads of urgent medical supplies to the Gaza Strip, containing medicine and medical equipment sufficient for an estimated 70,000 people.

"Some injuries had been severe and required amputations," the UNICEF added.

"Recent violence has worsened the already weak health system in the Gaza Strip, and the situation was amplified by power cuts and shortages of fuel, medicine and equipment, and medical facilities are buckling under the strain of additional casualties which occurred during the recent acts of violence," it added.
