India seeks closer tourism ties with Jordan
 
Amman, June 29(Petra)-- India's Tourism Minister Subodh Kant Sahay stressed his country's desire to promote tourism ties with Jordan, praising Jordan's security and stability.

During meetings with a number of Jordanian officials, the Indian minister noted that 70,000 Indians visited Jordan in 2011, while 32,000 came to the Kingdom in the first three months of this year.

"We expect the figure to reach 100,000 visitors by the end of year," he said The minister, who attended a ceremony organized by the Indian Embassy in Amman, said that India seeks to open a representative office in Jordan this year to promote the country as a tourism destination in the Kingdom and the region.

He also called on Jordanian businessmen to benefit from tourist and economic opportunities in India. On Indian investments in Jordan, the minister said ''India is investing in the phosphoric acid project worth US $ 625 million'', noting India looks forward to opening a leather factory in Jordan.

Meanwhile, Indian Ambassador to Jordan Radha Ranjan Dash affirmed the strong Jordanian- Indian ties in various fields.

The volume of trade exchange between Jordan and India stood at 1.36 billion in 2011, the ambassador said, noting that 10,000 Indians live and work in Jordan this year compared to 8,000 in 2008.
