King opens Jami' Al Arab Mosque in Zarqa

Zarqa, June 13 (Petra)--His Majesty King Abdullah II on Wednesday inaugurated the new building of the JD3 million Jami' Al Arab Mosque in central Zarqa, which can accommodate 4,500 worshipers.

The new design of the mosque, built in 1920, mimics Islamic architecture in terms of decoration and tall minarets, and will be one the of the landmarks of the city.

His Majesty also checked on the facilities of the solar-powered mosque, which includes prayer spaces for men and women, a cultural center, Dar Al-Quran, and a prayer room for people with special needs.

His Majesty ordered furnishing the cultural center in the mosque and providing it with the necessary equipment and computers.

The 4,500-square-meter, four-storey mosque also houses a health center, dental clinics and health facilities for people with disabilities.

During his tour, King Abdullah was briefed the Imam of the mosque Sheikh Ahmed Al-Zoubi on the stages of building the mosque, which provides the residents of the area with cultural, educational and health services.
