LTRC chief says unlicensed ride-hailing apps will be monitored

Amman, Oct. 28 (Petra) -- The Land Transport Regulatory Commission (LTRC) is following up with the Ministry of Digital Economy and the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) on all unlicensed ride-hailing applications that negatively affect the work of yellow taxis, said LTRC Director General Alaa Shbailat.

While inspecting on Monday the Irbid passenger transportation complex, Shbailat met with a number of operators and owners of transportation companies that operate on the main line between Irbid and Amman, and inspected the mechanism of ticket issuing for passengers at these companies, and if there are any observations on this mechanism, according to a LTRC statement.

Shbailat also met with a number of yellow taxi operators, who demanded a parking lot for them inside the complex.

Shbailat pledged that there will be coordination between the LTRC, represented by its office in Irbid Governorate (northern Jordan), and the traffic safety committees in the governorate, in order to arrange for the possibility of having such parking lots because of their importance in the process of organizing passenger traffic and ensuring that there are no traffic jams.
