Water minister visits YWC; inspects supply services in northern regions

Amman, April 9 (Petra) – Minister of Water and Irrigation, Raed Abu Soud, on Thursday visited Yarmouk Water Company (YWC) and met with its Director General, Mohammad Amayreh, and several other company officials.

The visit aimed to assess the current state of water supply services to citizens, ensure the smooth delivery of distribution programs, review the water allocation schedules for different areas in the northern governorates, and discuss preparations for meeting needs of the summer of 2026.

Abu Soud said these efforts must focus on "adequate" preparation to meet needs of various uses, secure the required water resources and implement distribution programs according to the announced plans.

In this context, he said these steps would also expedite completion of all preparations for the upcoming summer season and "promptly" address citizens' concerns.

Talking at the meeting, he stated the government is "closely" monitoring implementation of His Majesty King Abdullah II's directives to serve citizens amidst water challenges, stressing that the ministry "prioritizes" addressing needs of all regions "equitably." The Ministry, the Water Authority of Jordan, the Jordan Valley Authority, and water companies are striving to improve their service "efficiency," raise performance levels, make a "qualitative" shift, and enhance water and sanitation services provided to citizens, he pointed out.

These entities, he said, are also working to secure drinking and irrigation water needs in all regions and are expediting provision of additional sources and transfer of increased quantities to certain areas.

He noted the necessity of completing maintenance and operational work and "effectively" monitoring the progress of water and sanitation projects currently implemented by the ministry in all areas of the northern governorates.

To achieve the desired goals, he instructed YWA's concerned authorities to follow up on all the observations during the tour to ensure citizens receive the best possible services and improve the overall quality of service.

Touring several projects, he listened to reports from officials on completion rates and work progress.

In turn, YWC's Director General thoroughly detailed progress of the projects, particularly enterprises aimed at reducing water loss, improving water supply to various areas, and alleviating burden on citizens.
