Amman, Sept. 15 (Petra) - Authorities thwarted an illegal attempt to cut down old trees in Ajloun governorate, according to the Royal Department for Environment Protection and the Ministry of Agriculture on Tuesday.
Using surveillance drones, law enforcement tracked suspect movements, pinpointed the illegal activity deep within the forest, and identified those involved.
Raiding the site, officers arrested suspects, seized chainsaws and cutting equipment, then confiscated approximately 5 tons of illegally harvested timber.
In a statement, Minister of Agriculture Saeb Khraisat hailed the operation, calling forest preservation a "vital national responsibility that hinges on strict inter-agency coordination." He added that integration of field intelligence with modern surveillance technology boosts "monitoring efficiency," which helps authorities intercept illegal logging activities and enforce environmental laws.
